The Best S’mores Ideas for Summer and Beyond
Aug 9, 2024Summer may be starting to slow down, but that doesn’t mean the fun is over yet. There are still plenty of backyard gatherings with friends and family to enjoy. And what makes those get-togethers even better? Sitting by the fire pit and biting into the ultimate treat: s’mores.
The combination of graham cracker, roasted marshmallow, and chocolate is a tried and true classic, but there are plenty of other ways to make the ultimate s’mores with a few simple swaps. In honor of National S’mores Day on August 10 (and beyond), we’re stacking up clever combos you may have never tried. Whether you’re setting up a tabletop platter for two to pair with Mesa or Cinder or putting together a s’mores bar for a gathering around Bonfire or Yukon, get creative with these tasty s’mores ideas.
How to Make the Best S’mores
Swap the cracker: Graham crackers are subtly sweet and pair well with any chocolate. However, that’s not the only thing you can use to hold s’mores together. Swap the crackers for chocolate chip, peanut butter, or oatmeal cookies. Consider Oreos or use Ritz Crackers for a sweet and salty combo. Thinly slice other treats such as banana bread, lemon loaf, brownies, or Rice Krispie Treats.
Try different chocolate: Move over simple milk chocolate. There are so many other options to try! Using Reese’s or other peanut butter cups will instantly elevate your s’mores. Consider trying a cookies ‘n creme bar or different flavors of filled Ghirardelli chocolate squares like sea salt caramel or raspberry. Dark chocolate bars with mint, orange, or nuts make for excellent flavor combinations as well.
Add other toppings: Chocolate doesn’t have to be the only flavor profile, and so many other ingredients pair well with it. Try adding fruit such as sliced banana, sliced apple, mashed strawberries or raspberries. Use a spread like creamy peanut butter, Nutella, caramel sauce, or your favorite fruit jam. Include other toppings like a slice of bacon, shredded coconut, or rainbow sprinkles for a pop of color.
S’mores Recipes to Try:
